Chinese Media and Communications Summer School and Internship ProgramUniversity of International Business and Economics (Beijing, China)Program Dates: mid-June - late-July *Program not available for Summer 2010 The ProgramThis seven-week program offers an unparalleled opportunity to become part of one of the fastest growing media and communications industries in the world. Against all global trends, the Chinese Media industry grew a staggering 11% in 2008. During the first three weeks of the program, students take a course on the Chinese Media. The history, regulation and organization are discussed in details including a comparative analysis between the US and China. This 40-hour course is complemented by field visits and a Business Mandarin Language program. This course will be delivered on the University of Business and Economics (UIBE) campus and appear on a UIBE transcript. During the final four weeks of the program students are placed in the giant CCTV, China’s most prominent broadcaster and largest TV network. Internships are offered in many diverse areas of the organization based on students’ individual interest. Cultural activities include Great Wall hikes, Chinese opera performances and many museums and sites of cultural significance. The CourseThis course appears on a University of International Business and Economics (UIBE) transcript. Program LocationsThe program is based in Beijing at the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE). One of China’s most international universities, UIBE offers the perfect base for studying in the diverse and sprawling capital of Beijing. Located in the Chaoyang District, home to the city’s Central Business District and host to the 2008 Olympic sites, UIBE is a modern and well-designed campus. Beautifully landscaped with grassy lawns and a Chinese garden, the university also attracts prominent faculty members to its campus. Recently UIBE’s MBA program was voted the sixth-most influential MBA program at the World Entrepreneurs Summit. With a total enrollment of more than 11,000 students, including 2,600 international students from over 102 countries around the world, UIBE offers a unique opportunity to increase your global awareness. AccommodationsStudents will live in dorm-style campus accommodations at the University of International Business and Economics. Rooms will be on a twin share arrangement with other students on the program. Accommodations are located in areas that allow students to safely enjoy the program destinations. TravelThe Education Abroad Network will organize an optional group flight from the United States to/from Beijing, China. Upon application participants will be provided complete airfare details. CreditParticipants in the program are able to obtain credits through universities and colleges in the United States. Grades will be posted on a UIBE transcript. Credit transfer (generally 3 -6 U.S. credits) is subject to home institution regulations so please consult your academic advisor for guidance. The Education Abroad Network will provide all documentation to institutions to assist in credit transfer. Program FeeThe final program fee will be announced in early 2010. EligibilityIn order to participate on the program students must be currently enrolled in a degree-granting institution, have completed one year of coursework on a college or university campus by the program start date, and achieved a minimum GPA of 2.5/4.0. However applications will be reviewed by examining the student’s overall application materials including: Course of Study, Letters of Recommendation, and Personal Statement. If you fall below the GPA requirement, please contact The Education Abroad Network to discuss your eligibility to participate in the program. There are no pre-requisites required. Submitting an ApplicationInterested students can apply on-line or download the Education Abroad Network application. There is a $30 application fee. In addition, after acceptance there is a $500 deposit. The deposit is fully refundable, less a $75 administrative fee, should students withdraw by March 15, 2010. After April 1, 2010, the deposit is not refundable. Application Deadline: Applications are assessed on a rolling basis until all 30 spots are filled. We suggest interested students apply by February 15, 2010, to avoid disappointment. However, all 30 spots could fill before the deadline. A pre-departure package for the program will be sent to the applicant once accepted into the program. |
