The Chinese EconomyProgram not available for Summer 2010.Fudan UniversityProgram Dates: July 2 – July 22, 2008 The ProgramThis three-week program based in Shanghai looks at the world's fastest growing economy and the many factors behind its sensational growth. Students will gain an insight into everything from the economic reforms to trading practices and local business regulation and law. This course also looks at the cultural aspects of doing business in China through an examination of business etiquette and marketing trends and popular culture. Students will study at Fudan University under Fudan faculty and also participate in a series of industry visits. These visits seek to put the classroom materials into a cultural context. A three-day weekend field trip in the middle of the program will take students to a regional area to experience another aspect of modern Chinese industrialization. Fudan students will be involved in a number of cultural activities so students on the program will have some opportunity to integrate with local students. The CourseThis course appears on a Fudan University transcript. This course meets on campus for three hours each morning, Monday through Thursday for the three weeks and examines the following themes.
Classroom lectures are supplemented by the following industry visits in which students will see and hear from each of these companies/organizations.
Program LocationsThe program is based in Shanghai at Fudan University. Fudan is the leading university in Shanghai, and one of the top universities in China. It was founded in 1905 and today is at the forefront of cultivating talent for modern China. It’s modern towers sit alongside beautiful chinese gardens and provides a stimulating and contemplative environment for learning. Shanghai is a multi-cultural metropolis with both modern and traditional Chinese features. The population of 18.7 million makes it China’s largest city and the commercial and financial center of the country. AccommodationsStudents will live by the Fudan campus in hotel style housing. Rooms will be on a twin share arrangement with other students on the program. All accommodations are in located in areas that allow students to safely enjoy the program destinations. TravelThe Education Abroad Network will organize an optional group flight from the United States to/from Shanghai, China. Upon application participants will be provided complete airfare details. CreditParticipants in the program are able to obtain credits through universities and colleges in the United States. Grades will be posted on a Fudan University transcript. Credit transfer (generally 3 -4 U.S. credits) is subject to home institution regulations so please consult your academic advisor for guidance. The Education Abroad Network will provide all documentation to institutions to assist in credit transfer. Program FeeThe final program fee will be announced in the future. EligibilityIn order to participate on the program students must be currently enrolled in a degree-granting institution, have completed one year of coursework on a college or university campus by the program start date, and achieved a minimum GPA of 2.5/4.0. However applications will be reviewed by examining the student’s overall application materials including: Course of Study, Letters of Recommendation, and Personal Statement. If you fall below the GPA requirement, please contact The Education Abroad Network to discuss your eligibility to participate in the program. There are no pre-requisites required. Submitting an ApplicationInterested students can apply on-line or download the Study Australia application. There is a $30 application fee. In addition, after acceptance there is a $500 deposit. The deposit is fully refundable, less a $75 administrative fee, should students withdraw by March 15, 2008. After April 1, 2008, the deposit is not refundable. Application Deadline: Applications are assessed on a rolling basis until all 30 spots are filled. We suggest interested students apply by February 15, 2008, to avoid disappointment. However, all 30 spots could fill before the deadline. A pre-departure package for the program will be sent to the applicant once accepted into the program. |
