H1N1 Update
Presently, we have not suspended any of our programs abroad. Should program changes arise, TEAN will act and communicate these changes with all participants. In most cases, however, individuals who have contracted H1N1 experience typical, flu-like symptoms and fully recover. Participants who have flu-like symptoms should seek medical attention as soon as possible as well as notify their Resident Director and family. In consultation with the student’s host university, TEAN staff will encourage students to take appropriate actions to try to prevent the spread of the H1N1 virus when possible. Students should read the latest CDC H1N1 virus information for global travelers published here.
In addition, the CRC recommends the following guidelines for the prevention of the spread of H1N1 virus.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after coughing or sneezing. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand rub,* when your hands are not visibly dirty.
* If soap and water are not available and you do not have an alcohol-based product while you are traveling, other hand sanitizers that do not contain alcohol may be useful.
-
Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, and put your used tissue in the trash. If you don't have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve, not your hands.
-
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth.
-
Avoid close contact with sick people.
