Study Abroad in Newcastle, Australia

Very few places on Earth boast such perfect positioning along the coast. As the only city in Australia with its Central Business District situated both on the beach and the harbor waterfront, Newcastle features a cosmopolitan vibe along some of the continent’s most sought-after real estate. Surfers from around the world regularly descend upon its beaches to participate in one of the world’s top surfing competitions and even for those who don’t know a “barrel” from a “curl,” Newcastle is a laidback paradise for beach-goers. Besides boasting a favorable climate, the city offers students a vibrant nightlife, keeping you active day and night! Take some time to soak in your surroundings with a trip to the lookout at Bar Beach, the city’s highest point and a mecca for hang gliders.

Student Experience in Newcastle

Newcastle is a great city right on the east coast, and its location is perfect to travel to Sydney (only about two hours by train) and airfare was so reasonably priced that you can jet off to experience pretty much any other city you want during the weekend! When I visited Sydney I was in awe of its beauty, but felt a sense of comfort when returning to Newcastle; Sydney was a bit too big and overwhelming for me personally, but Newcastle is the perfect not-too-big and not-too-small size. It has so many pockets of different neighborhoods with bars, restaurants and shops, but is also small enough that you can occasionally run into someone you know.
