After two terms of TEAN alumni ambassadorship, a summer internship in the TEAN Chicago office, and working her last semester at University of Dayton in its study abroad office, Kaylie landed her dream job working for TEAN. Previous to her study abroad semester with TEAN at Bond University in Gold Coast, Australia, Kaylie couldn’t have imagined just how fulfilled her life could feel—all because of international education! Along with being completely ecstatic about working in the city she was born and raised, Kaylie also looks forward to where her future flies her.

Lily Andrules, Assistant Program Manager
Lily had her first international experience when she traveled to Reutlingen, Germany in high school on an exchange program. While completing her Bachelor of Arts at Temple University, she studied and interned abroad in London during the fall semester of her junior year. When she returned, she realized that she had grown a huge passion for promoting students to think and live globally, and started to pursue a career in the field of international education. Prior to joining TEAN, she had the opportunity to work in student services and institutional relations.

Russ Alexander, Director - Programs and Development
Russ was involved with the first group of US study abroad students to come to Australia in the late 1980s. He studied abroad as a high school student for a year in Tyler, Texas and a semester at Georgetown University in Washington DC. Russ graduated from the University of New South Wales in Sydney, where he also became the Associate Director for Study Abroad. Russ joined the Study Australia team in 2000 and now directs the programs in Asia and is responsible for the educational design elements of our Australian/South Pacific programs. Russ is based in Chicago.

Helen Armitage, Resident Director, Queensland
Helen has been working in the International Education Field for over 11 years. During her undergraduate degree at Griffith University, she started working in their international office on a part time basis. This became full time after she graduated with a Bachelors in Communications in 1998. Following her role at Griffith she worked in the International and Study Abroad teams at Bond University and was responsible for marketing and developing the study abroad and full degree programs in North America and Europe. This role saw Helen travel extensively throughout these regions for many years. Helen is now the Resident Director in Queensland for Study Australia and is also completing her graduate studies in Education.
Jay Bartletti spent his undergraduate years at the University of California, Santa Barbara where he studied abroad for 10-weeks in Morelia, Mexico and for an academic year in Barcelona, Spain. After working for a few years, Jay embarked on a 500 day backpacking trip to South America where he traveled through nine countries, volunteered in Paraguay, interned with the Fulbright Commission in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and enjoyed life. He followed his passion for study abroad and got a Masters Degree in International Education at the George Washington University (GWU) in Washington DC. Jay’s been working in the field of international education since 2007 primarily in a university relations capacity and is an expert in curriculum integration, custom program design, internships and is heavily involved with Lessons from Abroad returnee conferences across the west coast.

Ian Boley, Resident Assistant, Shanghai
Ian studied abroad with TEAN in China in 2012. While in Shanghai, he found an opportunity to pursue graduate studies at Fudan University and took it. After graduating from Marietta College, he spent the next two years studying for an MA in Chinese Philosophy and Culture while helping out with TEAN orientations on the side. He now serves as a mentor to TEAN students, utilizing his shared experiences to help them thrive in Shanghai. In undergrad, he majored in history and Asian studies, and is fascinated by international relations and military history.

Megan Clavier, Resident Director, Cambodia
Megan finished college in 2006 and headed straight to the Burmese border to work with illegal migrant workers and refugees. In 2008 she returned to SE Asia to teach XO laptops to children in rural Cambodia. Megan has since moved to Phnom Penh, using her design skills to communicate the amazing work of small organizations to the outside world. Passionate about Cambodia, working with TEAN allows Megan to help students see the wonderful side of SE Asia that is often hidden from tourists.

Nancy Clarke, Regional Director
Nancy has been a Regional Representative since 2006. She has lived abroad in Melbourne, Australia, and London, England. She has a bachelor's degree from the University of New Hampshire and a master's degree from Monash University in Melbourne, Australia.

Sam Davis, Resident Assistant, Auckland
Sam had his experience with study abroad by spending a semester in Aarhus, Denmark in 2012. Upon his return to Auckland University of Technology (AUT), Sam started volunteering with the International Centre, promoting the benefits of exchanges and giving advice to outbound students. After graduating in December 2013 with a degree in Communications, Sam worked for several Communication agencies in Auckland. Sam now works at the AUT International Centre as International Programmes Coordinator, as well as working with TEAN as the Auckland Resident Assistant.

Kendrick Delaney, Resident Director, Singapore
Born on a tiny island in the Caribbean, Kendrick finished his culinary degree in 2004 at the College of the Bahamas and made his way to the 8th arrondissement of Paris, France to try his hand as a struggling chef. Having fallen in love with International food and culture, he later moved to the US to complete his masters in International Business at Johnson and Wales University. He worked for 3 years as a Study Abroad Advisor for students wishing to fulfill college credits overseas. In 2013 Kendrick left his post as International Educator at the University of Rhode Island moving to SE Asia for work. Kendrick has since embraced the tiny red dot city-state of Singapore, sharing his culinary, hospitality and education experiences to help budding talents improve their hospitality and tourism concepts. Passionate about the ethnic melting pot of Singapore, working with TEAN allows Kendrick to help students see the mechanics of ‘the cleanest city on earth.'

Hannah DeMilta, Outreach Manager
Hannah first fell in love with Australia when she studied abroad with The Education Abroad Network at Bond University on the Gold Coast. Two years later, she moved to Sydney to pursue her career in digital marketing, working with both up and coming startups to well-known clients such as Nestle and IBM. After four years she returned back to the US to join TEAN at Chicago HQ. Hannah is a graduate of Otterbein University in Ohio where she majored in Public Relations with a Deaf Culture and Language minor.

Shannon Diegel, Program Manager
After Shannon studied abroad while attending Loyola University Chicago, she knew her life would never be the same again. A few months following graduation she moved to Bangkok, Thailand to teach English. She thought she knew what city life was like after living in Chicago, but Bangkok found ways to surprise her every day! Upon returning home, she began working in international education, helping American high-school students travel the world and study abroad. Shannon holds a Master’s Degree in International Education from the SIT Graduate Institute.

Jo Dounias, Resident Director, Sydney
Joanna was born in Sydney, Australia to Greek immigrant parents and is bilingual. She has a Design degree from UNSW, and completed AWARD School (Australian Writers and Art Directors) towards her 10 year career in advertising. Joanna’s passion for adventure travel and experiencing other cultures is what first drew her into international education beginning with an around the world trip, finishing in Greece where she established herself as private tour guide. Returning to Australia, Joanna was employed in the travel industry as a destination researcher for 8 years, specializing in the Eastern Mediterranean region. Joanna works with TEAN in Sydney, helping students settle into their new study environment, and connect with their local community.

Volker Depner, Resident Director, Sydney
Volker first went to Australia in 1997 to study abroad for a semester and 15 Years later he is still there. He has completed a Masters degree in Engineering Management and one in Business Administration at UTS and Macquarie University, respectively. His professional career is centred around business development and project management with work assignments in Munich, Frankfurt, London, Ho Chi Minh and the majority in Sydney, with both large international and small companies in their growth stage. With his two passions in life being travel and people it does not come as a surprise that he has travelled a fare share of the world and loves to spend time with those who also hit the road.

Nick Falzone, Assistant Program Manager
Nick is a graduate of Loyola University Chicago with a bachelor's degree in Psychology. After studying abroad for a year in Rome, Italy and Vienna, Austria, he was eager to continue learning about the world. He was first introduced to TEAN at a local returnee conference and has been pursing his new found love of international education ever since. He joins the team after completing an internship with TEAN. He is grateful for the opportunity to help students experience the incredible benefits of studying abroad.

Medusa Fang, Resident Director, Shanghai
Medusa is a native of Shanghai with over thirteen years of experience in international education. Having obtained a Bachelor of Arts in English Language from Fudan University and a Master of Arts in Sociology from the University of Hong Kong, her academic background in international cultural exchange has provided a foundation for a career spend working with top-level universities and organizations from around the world. Prior to joining The Education Abroad Network, Medusa complimented her work with international students by teaching university coursework in English and Chinese Culture and Folklore.

Rachel Fenton, Resident Director, New Zealand
Rachel has an extensive background in international education student services, marketing and university relations. She spent several years living and working abroad first in Japan on the JET program, then in London, England and Guangzhou, China. On return to New Zealand, Rachel managed the study abroad and student exchange programs at Massey University; her alma mater where she was awarded degrees in Business Administration and Marketing. She is now working at the University of Auckland, as well as representing TEAN as the New Zealand Resident Director.

Rob Gaetano, Resident Director, Melbourne
Robert has been working with international students at Monash University on and off since 2001. Apart from a two-year stint in London, Robert has lived in Melbourne his whole life and loves everything Melbourne has to offer. Robert is very passionate about travel and having been to every continent (except Antarctica), he encourages everyone he meets to spend some time abroad! In his other life, Robert is an actor who graduated from the National Theatre Drama School in 2011.

Lauren Gabell, Marketing Manager
Lauren's passion for international education was ignited after studying abroad at Boston College in 1997. Lauren has worked for the study abroad offices at both Monash University and Deakin University, in Melbourne, Australia. At Deakin University she was responsible for developing the study abroad program, and marketing the university in Europe, North America and Thailand. Lauren joined The Education Abroad Network in 2004 as the Resident Director in Melbourne. Lauren is now based out of Chiang Mai, Thailand, and in addition to marketing responsibilities is also involved with TEAN's in-country programs.

Todd Gretencord, Resident Director, Internships
Todd has lived in Australia with his family since 2009 and has been placing and supporting interns since 2010. He is a graduate of Southern Illinois University. Todd has always loved travel and adventure and has lived in 10 US states and 2 in Australia. In addition to managing our Internship Program in Australia and New Zealand Todd works closely with the internship staff in other TEAN locations to ensure continuity and service levels at all locations are maintained. He has extensive experience with in-country student support and is a resource for all TEAN students in the Asia-Pacific.

Orion McCarthy, Resident Assistant, Townsville
A native of Washington DC, Orion fell in love with Australia during his TEAN study abroad adventure at James Cook University in 2014. As an ecology major, he enjoyed the diverse array of tropical biology, wildlife, and marine science courses offered by JCU and relished the tropical bush-land setting of the campus with its proximity to the wondrous Great Barrier Reef. He has since completed his degree and returned to Townsville to enjoy the tropical lifestyle and proximity to nature. He loves to impart his love for Townsville to the TEAN students and show them all Australia has to offer.

Fran is a Design student majoring in Illustration at Massey University in Wellington, and an RA with 'The Cube' accommodation, at which TEAN Massey students live. She spent the Summer of 2012 working at a summer camp in Texas, and has had the travel bug ever since. Fran has chosen to finish her degree before embarking on another overseas adventure, and in the meantime, is dedicating her holidays to discovering her own slice of paradise (New Zealand), one windy coastal road at a time.

Lindsey Hery, Regional Director
A proud New Englander, Lindsey has always had a passion for understanding and exploring new cultures, languages and people. Her first experience abroad was in college as an exchange student at the Universidad de Malaga in Spain. After diagnosed with the travel bug, Lindsey returned to Roanoke College with a passion for international education and began work in the study abroad office. Since graduating, Lindsey has continued her passion for education abroad by working in both a university setting and international education organizations. Lindsey holds a B.A. in Intercultural Relations and Spanish and a M.A. in Intercultural Relations from Lesley University. Jenn fell in love with study abroad in 2012 when she completed a teaching internship abroad in Sydney. After returning home, she completed her Bachelor's Degree in Education and International Studies and aimed to gain diverse teaching experiences by working in a variety of different educational programs. Although she enjoyed her time teaching, she found a new love for mentoring when she took a role as a Volunteer Coordinator for two NGOs. Jenn has just recently moved to Brisbane from Orlando, Florida and is enjoying all of the sunshine that Queensland has to offer. Zoe Kazurinsky, Resident Assistant, Christchurch
Zoe got her first taste studying abroad by spending her junior year of high school in Sydney in 2004. She was also an exchange student in Heilbronn, Germany. Then she boomeranged back down under with TEAN in 2009 – spending a semester at Bond University. A graduate of Western Michigan University (Go Broncos!) and Chicago native, she has traded one Windy City for another and currently resides in Wellington, NZ. She joins us as a Resident Assistant sharing her experiences studying abroad and adjusting to life in new cities.

Sean Lennon, Director
Sean is Managing Director and Co-founder of The Education Abroad Network. Sean has resided in Perth, Australia since 1993. Upon arriving in Australia, Sean worked with international students attending the University of Notre Dame Australia in Fremantle. Other previous experience includes senior roles within the human resources consulting industry in both Australia and the USA. He earned a BA and MSA from the University of Notre Dame (Indiana), and is member of NAFSA, The Forum on Education Abroad and AMCHAM Australia and China.

Kai was born in northern Thailand in 1958 and attended school in Chiang Mai before joining the Thai military in 1974. His military career was a highly decorated one and lasted almost 20 years. After leaving the military he returned to Chiang Mai University where he completed his BA majoring in Marketing. Kai had a strong desire to meet people from all over the world so he also undertook Thai Tourism training and became a licensed tourist guide. He started his own company in 1999 and has focused on small highly educational experiences for visitors to Northern Thailand since then. Kai has designed and led many cultural and academic excursions for students from Australian and US universities over the past 15 years and brings an incredible knowledge of his region and Thai customs and a true cross-cultural understanding to his role as Resident Director for Thailand. He lives in Chiang Mai with his family, and his daughter just became the youngest concert violinist for the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra.
Julie Tuman, Regional Director
Julie was born and raised in Raleigh, North Carolina. Her commitment to international education first started while on a summer abroad program in Germany through Appalachian State University. Upon completion of her undergraduate degree in Chinese history, Julie spent two years in northeastern China, teaching English and learning Chinese. Since then, she has received a masters in Chinese from UMass Amherst, during which time she lived in Taiwan for a year, and worked in international education for nearly a decade.

Anne Martin-Montgomery, MA, MSc., Resident Director, Perth
Anne is our Resident Director for Perth. She is an anthropologist, archaeologist, and developed a multi-media Mandarin language curriculum for children. She has an extensive background in international relations and foreign policy with the US government. Before moving to Perth she taught Chinese language and archaeology to children and adults in Philadelphia. She has a masters in Anthropology from UPENN, a masters in Middle East Studies from UT Austin and a bachelors in International Relations from Claremont McKenna College. During college she studied abroad in Taipei, Taiwan. She loves the Western Australia lifestyle – and rides her bike daily around the Canning River. She is passionate about history, language and learning.

Kate McSurley, Senior Program Manager
Kate first traveled abroad as a participant of The Education Abroad Network, studying in Australia at the University of Queensland. Her time overseas allowed her to examine English literature from a fresh, new angle and have a proper introduction to Australian literature. Before joining TEAN, Kate also served as a National Admissions Advisor for a fashion & interior design college as well as a technical writer for a sport technology company. Kate holds a BA in English/Communications from Saint Xavier University and earned her M.A. in English at DePaul University, both in Chicago. Since her time at UQ, she has continued her travels throughout Europe and the U.S., but she will always have a soft spot for Australia.

Oliver McSurley, Senior Program Manager
As an undergraduate student majoring in History, Oliver studied abroad through The Education Abroad Network. At the University of Queensland in Brisbane, he studied Australian history, politics and Aboriginal culture. Prior to joining TEAN, Oliver taught secondary-level Geography and Global Issues, European History, and US History. He holds a BA in History from the University of Illinois-Chicago and a Masters of Education from DePaul University.

Alice Milne, Resident Assistant, Dunedin
Alice, a native Kiwi, had her first exchange experience during high school when she spent a year living abroad in the north of France. Since then she has participated in two additional exchanges at L'Université de la Nouvelle-Calédonie in New Caledonia and at La Sorbonne in Paris, as well as travelling extensively around Europe and New Zealand. In 2012, Alice was a ‘Kiwi Host’ in the University of Otago’s international student accommodation program, making sure the students made smooth transitions from their home universities to life at Otago. Alice is a recent Otago University graduate and is looking forward to showing off her city to TEAN students.

Katherine Nevils, Assistant Program Manager
Katherine is originally from Raleigh, North Carolina. Her interest in international education was sparked during her first trip to France and Italy in 2009. After graduating from East Carolina University, she went on to pursue her M.Ed. in Student Affairs in Higher Education. During graduate school, she had the opportunity to study abroad where she researched minority student access to higher education in Paris, France. She also participated in an internship experience in Cambridge, England.
Nooy has worked in Thailand’s tourism industry for over 30 years. Originally based in Bangkok, Nooy moved to Chiang Mai almost 20 years ago. A graduate of Chiang Mai University’s Master of Arts in Tourism Industry Management, Nooy enjoys getting to know the students and providing an insight into Thai life and culture. Nooy loves the markets of Chiang Mai and considers herself an expert shopper. You definitely want to go shopping with Nooy when you’re in Chiang Mai.
Daniela Papi, Advisor, Cambodia
Daniela is the director and founder of PEPY, an educational development organization working in rural Cambodia. PEPY focuses on building the capacity of teachers and communities to increase access to quality education. Daniela is active in the "Voluntourism" sector speaking regularly on the potential negative effects of this growing trend, while encouraging industry players to be self-reflective and proactive in measuring their impact. PEPY was the winner of the Notre Dame Social Venture Business Plan Competition and a 2009 National Geographic Geotourism Challenge Winner. Daniela, a graduate of the University of Notre Dame, has lived and worked in Asia for the past eight years and is based in Siem Reap, Cambodia.

Bryan Park, Resident Assistant, Seoul
Bryan is a native of Seoul and his family has lived in Sydney, Australia since 2000. He enjoys using his experience and wisdom to support international students and help them settle in Seoul.

Ba Tan Pham, Resident Director, Vietnam
Tan studied English at Haiphong University in the north of Vietnam and is also a graduate of Saigon Travel-Tourism Training School in Ho Chi Minh City in the south of Vietnam. He has been working in the travel and tourism industry in Vietnam for the past 6 years. In his free time, Tan enjoys reading, working out, traveling in SE Asia, and sipping on a nice latte at the many wonderful cafes in Saigon. Sally is a native of Beijing and graduated from the University of International Relations, majoring in English. She is very familiar with the local spots around Beijing and university district. Sally joined ImmerQi Beijing Ltd in 2013, she also works with the ImmerQi Marketing and CSR team.

Champion Shaw, In-Country Coordinator, Sydney
Champion has a true passion for travel and fell in love with Australia after moving abroad to live and work in Sydney after completing his bachelor’s degree from Chapman University. Born and raised in Texas, he has lived in Southern California while completing his undergraduate degree in Business Marketing and now attends Bond University perusing a Master’s Degree in Construction with an emphasis in Quantity Surveying. While attending Chapman University Champion was a resident advisor, and loves working with students and showing them what a beautiful place Australia is.
Cameron was born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana. His passion for travel was sparked by a trip to Italy with his high school Latin Club. In the years since, he has traveled through much of Europe and Asia. After completing his degree at Ball State University, Cameron promptly packed his bags and moved to South Korea, where he lived and worked for over a year as an arts administrator. Upon his return to the States, he took up residence in Chicago, a city he adores.

Chris Shepherd, Director and Co-Founder
Chris has been the Director for the U.S. operations since 1995 and co-founded The Education Abroad Network and Study Australia, LLC. He has twice lived abroad in Australia and has traveled extensively throughout Australia and Africa and has visited New Zealand, China, Greece and numerous countries within Southeast Asia. He is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and a member of NAFSA and The Forum on Education Abroad.

Simon Shi, Staff Assistant, Beijing
Simon was born in Zhejiang Province in 1978 and moved to Beijing in 1987 to attend Yongdingmen School. Following his graduation from school, Simon joined Integrated Education Services Global Limited upon the opening of their Beijing office in 2004. Since that time, he has gained international exposure and developed the skills necessary for working with students in the education industry. He is also currently researching the viability of home stays in China, as he has strong aspirations of developing this particular industry in China. Simon joined the Education Abroad Network as a Staff Assistant in the Fall of 2008, putting to use the skills he has gained over the last several years working in the education industry.
Caroline Tell, Program Manager
While studying English at DePauw University, Caroline spent a semester abroad at the University of Queensland in Australia and was forever changed! Last year Caroline decided to pursue her passion for international education by teaching English in Hanoi, Vietnam. While abroad, Caroline had the opportunity to travel throughout Southeast Asia and even made it back to Australia. Prior to teaching in Vietnam, Caroline worked as a recruiter in Chicago.
Joanne has been involved in international education for over 15 years. For the last 10 of those years, she has been very active in developing networks within China. In addition to being the China Programs Manager for The Education Abroad Network, Joanne is the Director of an international education company which fosters cultural awareness through teaching and internship exchange and has responsibility for the operations in China. She has established a network of quality education providers in China, as well a strong links to government which are now an integral part of the program. Her experience and knowledge of international education in China has been a great asset to The Education Abroad Network.
John Yocum, Manager of Enrollment
John studied Public Relations at Illinois State University and then went on to earn his MBA from the University of Phoenix. Although he never studied abroad he has a passion for travel and different cultures. Prior to TEAN, John held roles in business development and education advisement.

Jessica Yu, Accountant
Jessica was born and raised in Nanjing, one of the four great ancient cultural capitals of China. She graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in International Economics in 2008. After two years working at GE Global Training & Development Center in Shanghai, she moved to the US to pursue her Master's Degree in Accountancy at DePaul University in Chicago. As a student, she completed an internship with TEAN and worked for DePaul University Writing Center on the Conversation & Culture team. After graduation, she joined us full time on the accounting team. She is excited to continue to explore different cultures with TEAN.

In addition, The Education Abroad Network utilizes several Program Representatives and support staff in the United States and overseas to help administer and market the programs. All of the support personnel have previously studied, lived, or worked abroad and can provide unique insight into the study abroad experience.
